Bachelor based on Rehabilitation Education (Special Schools)

The course of study encompasses teacher training, special educational, rehabilitation educational and specialist and pedagogical studies, in which practical phases are included from the start.

The first year of study encompasses general basic principles of the theory and practice of rehabilitation. In the second and third years of study, the focus is placed on the special educational course specialisations.

Alongside the course specialisation, students choose two teaching subjects as well as teacher training modules.

A total of 180 credits are acquired, which are distributed as follows:

  • Course Specialisation: Learning Difficulties or Social and Emotional Development: 33 Credits
  • Course Specialisation: Chosen option: 35 Credits
  • Teacher Training components: 22 Credits
  • First Teaching subject: 38 Credits
  • Second Teaching subject: 38 Credits
  • DaZ: 6 Credits
  • Bachelor thesis: 8 Credits

(DaZ: "Deutsch als Zweitsprache" - German as a second language)

 

Work Experience Placements

  • 4 week placements at a special school
  • 4 week placement in a non-school environment

 

Course Specialisations

  • Learning Difficulties (Required Elective)
  • Emotional and social development (Required Elective)
  • Intellectual/Mental development (Optional)
  • Physical and motor development (Optional)
  • Visual Impairment (Optional)
  • Speech and Language Difficulties (Optional)

The first course specialisation has to be either Learning Difficulties or Emotional and social development. The second course Specialisation has to be any one of the above listed.

 

Bachelor course based on Rehabilitation Sciences (secondary and vocational schools)

The course of study encompasses general principles of the theory and practice of rehabilitation as well as a chosen special educational course specialisation.

If the special educational specialisation is studied as a core subject, then a further course specialisation is chosen for commencement in the second year of study. In the „Bachelor course based on Rehabilitation Sciences“ oriented around a teaching qualification for vocational schools, a further choice is available between the introductory studies to a third course specialisation and the study of modules related to rehabilitation education outside of schools.

A total of 180 credits are acquired, which are distributed as follows:

  • Teacher Training components: 30 Credits
  • First Teaching subject: 68 Credits
  • Second Teaching subject: 68 Credits
  • DaZ: 6 Credits
  • Bachelor thesis: 8 Credits

Work experience placements

  • 4 week placement outside of a school
  • 4 week placement at a special school for the chosen course specialisation
  • for the Bachelor / Masters studies oriented around a teaching qualification for vocational schools, 52 weeks of career-related placements must be completed, of which a minimum of 27 weeks have to be documented by registration for the first state examination.
